Gregg Berhalter Fired as Head Coach of USMNT

Following Copa America Disappointment

US Soccer Announces Decision

Gregg Berhalter has been fired as the head coach of the United States men's national soccer team (USMNT) following the squad's disappointing performance at the Copa America.

Berhalter, 49, had led the USMNT since 2018 and had guided the team to the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2019 and the semifinals of the 2021 CONCACAF Nations League.

However, the team's failure to advance from the group stage of the Copa America, coupled with a string of poor results in friendlies, ultimately led to his dismissal.

In a statement released by US Soccer, the organization thanked Berhalter for his service and wished him well in his future endeavors.

"We want to thank Gregg for his hard work and commitment to the USMNT program over the past five years," said US Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone. "He has helped lay the foundation for the future of the program and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors."

US Soccer is expected to begin the search for a new head coach immediately.

Berhalter's firing marks the end of an era for the USMNT and leaves the team in a state of flux just six months before the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
